Worldwide Day of Play

Today was Nickelodeon's Worldwide Day of Play - Nick and all their networks (Noggin, The-N) go off-air from noon - 3pm to encourage kids to go outside to play.

The boys spend plenty of time outdoors anyway, but I figured it was a nice thing to celebrate anyway, so we spent those 3 hours outdoors.

First we went to Kids Oasis, which is a wooden playground on the other side of the lake. We haven't been there in years, AJ was under 2 and Drew wasn't born yet, so the boys had a lot of fun playing there since it was "new".

Then we stopped at Target for some snacks, and headed for the beach. We went to a spot down the street from our house, the boys hadn't been to this beach during the daytime before, we've gone a few times at night to watch fireworks over the lake.

The plan was for them to play in the sand, of course AJ wound up in the water!

A day at the beach (or at least a couple hours)

It was so hot today we decided to take the boys to the water to play. I voted for Jetty Island, but Corey didn't want to go that far, so to the lake we went.

Now, I dislike lakes a lot. I mean a lot. They are dirty, and you can rarely see the bottom, and gawd knows what you are stepping on - or what might think your toes are a snack. I've never, ever been a fan of lakes.

The boys had fun though, which counts for something. AJ loves any kind of water he can wade into.

Andrew spent most of his beach time on Corey's shoulders, he wasn't digging the lake either. Now that he's been in the ocean, he's a water snob like his mommy.

The main reason I hate lakes: Ducks. Ducks are dirty and icky and duck water is even dirtier and ickier.

After the lake, we went to the playground on the way out, the boys mostly played on the fire pole. At first, AJ insisted he needed help, but after about 5 minutes he figured out he could do it on his own, and he was so proud of himself.

One last picture of AJ, peering over the railing looking at some kind of tiny nature preserve.

And one of Corey and Andrew sitting in the grass.
